Monsanto faces challenge from CICR’s Bt cotton varieties

Public breeders at the Central Institute of Cotton Research in Nagpur, India have introduced Bt genes into 21 cotton varieties with plans to multiple Bt genes in the next 4 to 5 years. Agricultural scientists will field test varieties in 2016 and plan to make them available to farmers in 2017. Although the article title implies that “Monsanto faces challenge” from publicly released insect resistant cotton, they are not the only company selling insect resistant cotton in India.
