Uganda Starts Trials on Banana Bacterial Wilt Resistant Varieties Created With Genetic Engineering.

Uganda scientists at National Agricultural Research Organisation (Naro) have used genetic engineering to create banana varieties that are resistant to banana bacterial wilt. There is no pesticide available to control this disease which has spread to all areas of banana production in Uganda. Bananas are an important staple crop in Uganda and other areas in Africa.
