Golden Rice Trials in Bangladesh Show High Promise

A version of Golden Rice developed in Bangladesh performed well in field trials in 2017. Golden Rice is genetically engineered to provide pro-vitamin A in human diets in areas where vitamin A deficiency is common. Vitamin A deficiency is a leading cause of blindness and death in children in developing countries. Varieties of Golden Rice have been developed in Bangladesh as well as the Philippines and could be available to farmers in Bangladesh as early as 2018.
