USDA Proposes New SECURE Biotechnology Regulations to Protect Plant Health and Promote Agricultural Innovation

The USDA announced they are proposing to modernize regulations for the use of biotechnology in agriculture. The proposed modernization is called SECURE with stands for sustainable, ecological, consistent, uniform, responsible and efficient. This would be the first significant modernization of biotech regulations since 1987. The proposal will be up for public review over a two-month time frame. The proposed rule can be viewed at the Federal Register. Public comments can be made online during the period lasting from June 6 to August 5, 2019.
